Let’s go to Tooka Ebisu!
Have you ever heard about “Tooka Ebisu”?
“Tooka Ebisu” is mainly held in Kansai area every January. I actually have never heard of it before, so this time was my first “Tooka Ebisu”.
This time I will show you how “Tooka Ebisu” in Fuse was.
What is “Tooka Ebisu”?
First of all, let’s learn about it before participating !
“戎 Ebisu” is the God of Development which is one of the gods from The Seven Gods of Good Fortune.
In general, 恵比寿 is used for discribing but it’s not especially unified.
In addition, “Ebisu” is called in many ways like “Ebbessan”, “Ebbissan”, “Obessan”.
In Fuse, people call it “Ebessan”.
I can agree to that even the god is called such friendly name to see this quite kind face.
I heard the statue of “Ebessan” in Fuse is the biggest in Japan.
I saw many people gently stroking it. That might bring you good fortune.
Then what do exactly people do for “Tooka Ebisu”?
As the name ”戎 Ebisu” says, it is the event for worship “The Seven Gods of Good Fortune”.
On the day of “Tooka Ebisu” (1/10 ) in every year, people visit local shrines which enshrine “Ebisu”. And they pray mainly for business thriving, safety of family, and traffic safety.
After that, people recieve “福笹 Fukuzasa”.
“福笹 Fukuzasa” is inevitable lucky charm for “Tooka Ebisu”. People bring it back to home and put it where it’s supposed to be, then people can be blessed by “Ebisu” as it’s said.
Event date is not only 10th but also in front and back, 9th and 11th. In total, 3 days in a row.
Each day has a name to call, which is “Yoi Ebisu”, “Hon Ebisu” and “Nokori Ebbisu”.
Visiting “Fuse Ebisu shrine”
Firstly, Let’s pray at main shrine which takes just 2 minutes from the reception of SEKAI HOTEL Fuse!
On 10th (Hon ebisu), people were making such a long line to enter the shrine.
We visited there on 9 th evening and we didn’t have to wait to enter.
If you wouldn’t be able to wait that long time, 9th is good time.
If you cannot make it on 9th, we recommend to visit on 11th!
After praying, you should head to ”福娘 Fukumusume”. （Shirine maiden)
You can recieve “福笹 Fukuzasa” from pretty ”福娘 Fukumusume” and draw a fortune slip.
Unfortunately, my luck was not so good. However, it is fun and memorable to do it when you are traveling!
Funs of the festival are food stands!!
After you get praying done, you should be heading to food stands!
In 3 days of “Tooka Ebisu”, there are various kinds of food stands from Fuse station to the Ebisu shrine so you must be wondering what to eat.
Fuse is everyday fine because of local people, but today’s Fuse was especially energetic!
Many things attracted me but….
when a festival is being held, of course ….?
Yeah!! It is “Tamasen” !
It’s actually just rice cracker with sauce and egg on it.
But we sometimes definitely come to miss it. I don’t know why though.
It was cold so we ate very hot dumplings and Gyoza.
Again ,Yatai (food stands) is awesome !!
Bringing ”福餅 Fukumochi ”
On the day of “ Hon Ebisu”, pounding steamed rice for bringing was going on at the shrine.
We can feel like the new year to see traditional pounding steamed rice with millstone.
We hope an event won’t be gone even if it’s held once a year.
本This ”福餅 Fukumochi ” is brought to visitors by ”福娘 Fukumusume” from 1 pm.
Auspicious ”福餅 Fukumochi ” is brought on a first come, first served basis. So, if you could make it, please do not miss it.
Well, we enjoyed the 3 days event “Tooka Ebisu” so much!!
It was so fun to see many people and food stands.
It’s going to be a special memory to join festivals where you are traveling for sure.
If you consider to come to Fuse at the beginning of a year, please experience it !!
