The seat where my father sits is vacant.>

A five-minute walk from Fuse Station.
When you turn the corner as if lured by the light of the red lanterns, you will find a nostalgic and unusually relaxing restaurant called "Jidai Oukere".

More than newness, it is coziness. Good sake and the laughter of well-informed people are more important than stylishness.
Picking at horse sashimi while a Showa-era song plays in the background. Before you know it, you find yourself making a toast with someone next to you.

Although the bar started as a place for fathers, it has become a place for young people to "relax" as well. That is Fuse's bar "Jidai Oure.

Warm time beyond those red lanterns.

From Fuse Station, walk through the shopping arcade to Sakura-dori Avenue with the night breeze on your cheeks.
Amidst the twinkling lights of the snack bars, “Horse and Sake – Fuse’s Social Hall – Jidai Oure” is tucked away in a secluded spot that tickles the adventurous spirit of the night.

Hanging red lanterns and faded posters on the walls.
A number of people are comfortably seated on improvised chairs with cushions placed on top of beer cases.
It is also nice that Showa-era hit songs are softly played inside the restaurant. The sound is not too loud, so the conversation reaches your ears.

I wanted to create a restaurant that my father would want to come to,” says owner Shige.

After training at a horse meat restaurant in Tokyo, he returned to his hometown of Fuse in 2020 to open this restaurant.
In the back of the kitchen, one can see the faces of local classmates here and there. Local people doing local things for local people. That alone is somewhat reassuring.

There are nights when horse sashimi makes me feel really hungry.

「馬刺し盛り合わせ」と「えびすの宝玉」

When you come to this restaurant, you should first order the “assorted horse sashimi.
The parts available on any given day vary depending on the stock.
Some are lean and refreshing, while others are fatty and juicy. If you are lucky, you may even come across a rare part that you are not familiar with.

This restaurant does not need a title.

Who comes to sit next to you depends on your luck.
It could be a young couple, a mom from a neighborhood snack bar, or a businessman drinking alone.
But strangely enough, everyone blends into the restaurant equally. Even if you don’t talk to them, you can tell they are laughing with each other.
There are often those moments when people say, “I came here alone, but I feel comfortable here.

For example, when you are on your second visit to the restaurant, you can enjoy a glass of sweet potato shochu while eating a light snack such as yukke or kimchi.
Or maybe you would like to finish off your meal with some homemade curry to warm you up a bit.
No matter what time of day you come, you will be welcomed with open arms, which is typical of Jidai Oure.

A place that never changes

内観

Shige says. I don’t really care about trends. I’ve always liked this kind of thing.”
This store is not flashy or flashy, but it attracts an unusually large number of people.
I think it’s because, as the name “Jidai Oukere” suggests, the store is not left behind by the times, but rather “retains the goodness of the past.
There are no loud noises or flashy neon lights, but it’s the kind of place that makes you want to go home whenever you feel like it. It’s that kind of place.

Breathe in the air of Fuse as it is, relax, and take a bite.
It’s a little nostalgic, but just right for me now.
The seat where your father sits, maybe it’s open for you today.
