Morning steam and noon happiness. Restaurant Daifuku

On the north side of Fuse Station. The restaurant has been quietly supporting the stomachs of the town since 1948. As you pass through the entrance curtain, you can smell the aroma of soup stock and hear the sound of a fried egg softly reaching you through the showcase.

It is neither a tourist attraction nor a popular gourmet food. But it is sure to leave a lasting impression. Such "ordinary food" is preparing someone's day today.

A short walk from Fuse Station, along a street with a mixture of offices and factories, lies “Oshokujido Daifuku.

Morning preparations begin before the sky turns blue. The sounds, steam, and smells slowly spread to every corner of the restaurant.

布施中に運ぶお弁当の山

The restaurant was founded in 1948. It started out as a lunch box shop delivering to nearby companies. Before long, it had become a place that supported the breakfast, lunch, and dinner needs of people working in the area.

We want our customers to feel at home,” says Mr. and Mrs. Yoshioka, who now run the restaurant.

No corners are cut, no decorations are added. But with care. That is the atmosphere you can feel from the kitchen and from the service.

A friendly set meal at 9:00 a.m.

朝ごはん定食メニュー

The curtain swings at 9:00 in the morning. The “breakfast set meal” consists of rice, miso soup, a fried egg, and a small bowl of cooked food.

朝定食(550円)

It seems casual, but it is somehow gentle. It is a quiet luxury before work or on a day off. Just by having this breakfast, I feel as if I can be sure that today will be another day.

Lunchtime Happiness

今日のおまかせ定食メニュー

After 10:00, the atmosphere of the restaurant becomes a little more lively. The omakase set menus, which change daily, are the “lunchtime delicacies” of the day.

本日のおまかせ定食

One day it was the “Tenjitsushi-don” (bowl of rice topped with shrimp, chikuwa, and zucchini). The sweetness of the softly-boiled egg spreads in your mouth.

It reminded me a little of the lunch I had at my grandmother’s house when I was a child.

小エビとちくわとズッキーニの天とじ丼

The “Pork Ginger Grilled Set Meal” was filled with onions and the sweet and spicy sauce made the white rice go down a treat.

Mixed fries and ham and eggs. All of these dishes require a lot of effort, but they are not too much. They are “properly delicious” in the middle of everyday life.

その他定食メニュー

A large serving of rice is an extra 60 yen, and a mini udon is an extra 50 yen. Daifuku’s way is easy on both your wallet and your stomach.

A little luxury in the afternoon

午後の肴|メニュー(黒板)

Around 1:00 p.m., the time for “afternoon snacks” gently begins. Along with the call for bottled beer, tuna sashimi, shishamo, and scallops baked in butter are served at …….

The bustle of the afternoon has died down a bit, and here and there, people are spending their afternoons in their own ways. The voices may be quiet, but the air is certainly filled with contentment.

Whether alone or together. This place can also be a nice “escape” on a nice afternoon.

One more pleasure, the temptation of the showcase.

店内|おかずが並ぶショーケース

Right by the entrance. A glass showcase is lined with colorful small bowls.

Cold tofu, unohana (eel), dashimaki tamago (rolled egg), natto (fermented soybeans), and more. They are all supporting dishes that go well with rice or as a side dish with sake.

冷蔵ケース内|以下とジャガイモ煮

On the edge of each dish is a white price tag. The time spent looking at the price tag and choosing the perfect dish for your mood is also a bit of a luxury.

The weight of the bowl is comfortable, and you can feel the temperature of the dish the moment you hold it in your hand.

Another meal in the kitchen of the town

大福|店前の暖簾

There is nothing fancy about “Restaurant Daifuku. But it has the same temperature. The menu never changes, the smiles never change. And the little expressions that change from time to time.

The “usual food” of the people who work in Fuse. You can join in on the scenery and enjoy a meal today. Such a time may be the most luxurious of all.
