Behind the vending machines, a quiet and fragrant place
Where is the entrance? is surely one of the store's effects.
A back alley in Fuse, Higashiosaka. A faintly lit signboard and a Showa-era vending machine stand alone. Behind the sign is a bar where jazz music flows quietly, as if from another world. Bar Rack Spirits. Finding it is a bit of an adventure.
But once you open the door, you are at ease. All you have to do is to listen to the master, have a drink, and listen to what someone has to say.

Someone will be sucked into the bar without a door tonight.
Fuse, Higashi Osaka. A five-minute walk from the station, passing by the Fuse Flower Building, you will see a sign that glows white. It is Bar Rack Spirits. But there is no door. There is only a retro vending machine. Some people stop, puzzled, but that is also the “entrance” to the store.
In fact, the vending machine is a hidden door. It’s a trick just like in a movie. A light push on the machine makes a clicking sound, and you are sucked into the moist darkness.
Behind the door is a counter surrounded by soft lighting and quiet jazz music. Perhaps it is the master’s soft smile and the regulars smiling at you over the counter that makes you feel relaxed even though it is your first time here.
Cocktails with no names to suit your “mood of the moment
There is no menu. What there is is the master’s intuition and the customer’s “mood.
The master nods and begins to move his hand in response to such ambiguous words as “I want something sweet” or “Maybe I want something refreshing. The sound of the shaker quietly being shaken in front of you is somehow reassuring.
Rum, gin, whiskey, seasonal fruits, and sometimes, if I’m lucky, a little bit of lemon. Sometimes, if you’re lucky, you’ll come across something a little rarer. For those who don’t like alcohol, non-alcoholic mocktails and fruit juices are also available. This is a place where everyone can feel at home.
Late at night, before going to sleep. A cup of sweet-scented Irish coffee and a glass of sparkling wine.
The master brews a cup of Irish coffee for you to enjoy at the end of the night.
The aroma of whiskey rising softly from behind the steam. It is sweet, warm, and a little intoxicating. It is like a dessert, like a drink, and at the end, it leaves a coffee-like bitterness on your tongue. It is a cup like reading a book before going to bed.
The customer next to me laughs and tells me, “I’m sure you’ll have a good night’s sleep after drinking this. The customer next to me laughs and tells me, “I’m sure you’ll get a good night’s sleep after drinking this.
A night when someone’s hobby becomes someone else’s opportunity someday.
A chic and relaxed space. But it is not pretentious.
The master talks about old anime, the neighborhood shopping district, and the slightly geeky books brought in by the regulars. …… The topics are always free and unpredictable. Sometimes the conversation gets so lively that customers who have never met each other before are saying to each other, “Oh, did you watch the same thing? They are so excited to be talking to each other.
Perhaps it is because of the location of Fuse, Osaka. They are friendly and a bit meddlesome. But that makes me happy. It’s a night when someone’s hobby opens a door for someone else, someone they don’t know. There are many such moments piled up here.
A place that never changes, wrapping up the night of change.
Bar Rack Spirits will probably never change. The vending machine door, the jazz background music, and the small talk of the master. But the stories and laughter exchanged here change slowly day by day.
This place is just right for an evening alone or on the way home from a visit with someone. Quiet, warm, and a little mysterious. A bar without a door in Fuse.
If you ever come to this town, please remember that vending machine. That vending machine. Just by gently opening the door, you may make tonight just a little bit more special.
